Art and the Humanities

This will be my second year as an art teacher in Milan but I feel as though I have been training for it my whole life.  I have always been interested in art and the humanities since I was very young.  When I was in high school, I had a teacher that led me to discover the joy in learning about culture, history, music, drama, architecture and art.  It will be wonderful to share this love with my students.  This past summer I continued my education and learning with two exciting classes I participated in.  The one that will have the most impact on this coming year was a class called 21 Things for the 21st Century Educator.  In this class I learned many new tools and strategies to integrate and use the wonderful technology that we are fortunate to have here in Milan.
I am very excited to continue this new phase of my teaching career here at Milan.  Art and the Humanities will be a special class that integrates art into the classroom curriculum especially in the social studies area.  The acitivities that we do in this class will enhance the study of historical cultures in our country and symbols of our National pride. We will recreate projects as we study Native American art and cultures during our first semester.  In the winter we will create projects that help us understand the crafts and art of our country's Colonial era.  Our ultimate goal is be creative as we learn to appreciate art, history, literature, music and architecture of our American heritage.
We will use drawing, painting, weaving, papier mache' sculpture and clay techniques in the many projects throughout the year as we discover and develop our inner creative self.  Please ask your student to share what we are doing each week in art and stop in when you are in the building to see for yourself.

Please check out the other pages under more which include information on the Washington D.C trip.
